The
Photographer

Mark
bought his first 35mm camera over 25 years ago and has been taking photographs
of the natural world ever since. He works for the Forest Service as a Wilderness
Trail Crew Forman in the Bitterroot National Forest. On his off days off he
often backpacks to remote places around Western Montana with his camera and
dogs in order to capture the beauty of these wild places on film.
Mark comments
on photographing the different seasons in Montana : "Spring brings wildflowers,
cascading waterfalls and baby animals. As spring turns to summer the wildflowers
progress to higher elevations and make the alpine scenery astounding! The fall
is extra special and is my favorite time to be in the wilderness, the river
bottoms glow with golden cottonwoods and the high country offers sub alpine
larch in bright golds and huckleberry bushes in radiant reds. In addition, fall
trips to Yellowstone to photograph bugling elk are always incredible. Falls
quickly turns to winter and brings the magic of freshly fallen snow and ice
crystals..."
